28 Aug MKH Press and MKH Lift Receive EU Trade Mark Protection
Tarkmet’s MKH Press and MKH Lift product families were registered as EU trade marks in July 2026. The registrations protect the long-established product names and strengthen their position as Tarkmet’s own product brands.
The MKH Press and MKH Lift trade marks cover not only the machines themselves, but also parts and spare parts, components, as well as automation and conveyor solutions.
MKH Press and MKH Lift are not individual products, but product families that have been developed over decades. They are backed by Tarkmet’s own product development and a long history of manufacturing.
“MKH Lift and MKH Press are long-established brands that were developed back in the 1970s and 1980s. The trade marks we have now secured make it easier to strengthen the brands further. From an export perspective, it is also valuable that they are now included in an international trade mark register,” says Ari Kärjenmäki, CEO of Tarkmet.
A Trade Mark Is an Investment in the Future
Applying for a trade mark takes time, preparation and a clear commitment to the brand’s long-term development. Before an application is submitted, the relevant trade mark landscape is reviewed, the goods and services to be protected are carefully defined, and the classifications may be adjusted as the process moves forward. Preparing and processing an application can easily take several months, with the overall costs running into thousands of euros.
“Of course, a product family can be a brand without a registered trade mark, but registration strengthens its credibility. It shows customers that the company is serious about developing the product and intends to continue doing so in the future. When investing in equipment for production and testing, customers want products for which spare parts and accessories will continue to be available in the years ahead,” Kärjenmäki says.
Exports Open Up New Growth Opportunities for the MKH Product Brands
International growth is one of the next focus areas in the development of the MKH product brands. Currently, around 60% of MKH Press hydraulic presses are exported, with Europe and the United States in particular offering interesting opportunities for further growth.
MKH Press already has a strong international track record. More than one thousand presses have been delivered to Sweden alone, while MKH Lift magnetic lifters have so far been sold mainly in Finland.
The EU trade marks protect the MKH Press and MKH Lift brands throughout the European Union and also provide a solid foundation for extending trade mark protection to future export markets outside the EU.
“Now that the trade marks have been secured, we will continue marketing these product families and participating in trade fairs across Europe. We are also interested in opportunities in the United States, Japan and South-Korea.”
